The 30-year-old signed for the club in February and has already played five times since leaving Turkish club Istanbul Basaksehir.

However, those appearances are now under question after wild reports emerged that Ie’s twin brother, Edelino, might have stepped in instead.

The club are said to have been shocked to learn that the defender could not speak a word of English despite a career that has taken him across Europe.

That was despite Dinamo being under the impression that Ie was fluent in the language, which first sparked suspicions.

Edelino also plays football and is contracted to Portuguese fourth tier side Resende.

Dinamo have since asked Ie to provide his driving license, a request that has been refused.

An investigation is underway with Dinamo at risk of being docked eight points for fielding an ineligible player.

A figure within the Romanian Football Federation has told local outlet iAMsport: “There is no planned scenario for this situation.

“If the player who played is not the real one, there could be sanctions. Legally, a DNA test can decide everything.

“Of course, Dinamo never intended to use the twin brother instead of the correct one.

Gerard Pique reveals the differences between being managed by Sir Alex Ferguson and Pep Guardiola, but explains one key thing they have in common

“I think that, if the DNA result confirms that it is his twin brother, they should consider a defence, considering that they did not know about this.

“The possibility will have to be considered, but if Dinamo was deceived and manages to prove it, then the risk of losing points does not exist.”

The Bucharest side are already in deep trouble this season, battling relegation from the Romanian SuperLiga.

Ie made one appearance for Barcelona having come up through the ranks of their famed academy.

As well as playing under Luis Enrique, the Guinea-Bissau international has also starred for Villarreal, Lille, Feyenoord and Trabzonspor.

The two twins came up through the Sporting academy originally before Edgar transferred to Barca’s La Masia academy in 2012.
