Barcelona in no rush to decide its shirt sponsor as breaking current deal could come ‘costly’

As we approach the final phase of the campaign, the Barcelona board has some important decisions to make, including finalising the shirt sponsor for the season ahead.

Barcelona are contractually bound to Nike until 2026 and the deal can be extended for two more years until 2028.

But it is no secret that Barça are not happy with Nike’s offerings and are looking at alternatives, with Puma ready to offer a significantly better deal.

Barcelona in no rush for kit sponsor

Despite the mounting pressure on Barcelona, though, Diario SPORT suggests the board is in no rush to decide on the club’s kit sponsor next season.

That is because Barcelona are aware of the economic consequences of terminating a deal with Nike.

As per the report, the legal team is currently studying the Nike contract and is looking at an amicable way to break up the partnership.

After all, in the case of litigation, Barcelona will have to cough up a significant amount of money in the form of compensation. And that would reflect poorly on the club’s finances.

Puma waiting in line

Amid all this chaos, Puma are still waiting in line, ready to replace Nike as Barcelona’s kit sponsor.

As mentioned earlier, the German apparel giant is offering Barcelona a significantly better deal. Barcelona, for their part, believe next season’s kit could do well in the market, as the club will mark its 125th anniversary.

Finalising a kit sponsor, therefore, could be integral as Barcelona look to maximise the economic opportunities of their 125th anniversary.

The Catalans were considering launching their own brand of shirts, but that idea has been shelved for now.
