FC Barcelona is “outraged” by the expected introduction of an ‘Mbappe law’ which will facilitate bitter rivals Real Madrid’s signing of Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe according to SPORT, which cited anonymous sources.
Before the weekend, Mbappe finally announced that he will leave PSG when his contract expires on June 30.
He didn’t name his next destination, however, which barring any major surprises should be the Bernabeu and in turn make the Frenchman 2024’s major Galactico signing overseen by President Florentino Perez.
To facilitate the transfer, the Community of Madrid is putting together what has been dubbed an ‘Mbappe Law’ according to Relevo.
It will see foreign residents who invest in the community pay up to 20% less tax on earnings in the Spanish capital, and effectively mean that Mbappe pays just 24.5% on his salary as opposed to the 45% high earners currently must meet.
Over in Catalonia, however, there is “indignation” at Barca about the concessions that are being made so that Los Blancos, who it sees as “just another state club” according to SPORT, can get their man.
This title is usually handed to the likes of PSG and Manchester City, who are backed by the financial might of Qatar and Abu Dhabi respectively.
The Blaugrana feels that “in addition to the difficulties they have in fighting for the signing of players” with these sorts of clubs, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid are also being given a head start when it comes to players that might be more drawn towards them, and not Barca, because of tax benefits.
At present, anyone signing for Barca will have to hand over two different payments of 24.5% and 25.5% on their salary in national and regional taxes meaning that half of their earnings have to be parted with.
This factor could prove to be a fork in the road on highly sought after stars who have a string of top outfits to choose from.
Yet if a player, perhaps in the mould of Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva, really wants to sign for Xavi Hernandez’s first team, though, which he has since being a child according to Mundo Deportivo, it might not be an issue in the long run.
