Barcelona expected to sell an important player in the summer transfer window – report

Barcelona have faced major difficulties in the past few transfer windows and have had to find ways to work around the Financial Fair Play issues bothering the club to strengthen the squad.

The situation was no different this summer as the Catalans could not sign a new midfielder despite wanting to reinforce the position.

And, it is expected that things will not be very different when the summer transfer rolls around in a few months.

A new pivot midfielder is the priority for the summer, with Barcelona reportedly setting aside a sum of around €35-40 million to invest in that particular position.

An important sale on the cards

However, considering the financial situation and the lack of Fair Play margin, SPORT is reporting that Barcelona are expected to sell one important player during the summer so that it is possible for them to add new faces.

As was reported earlier in the squad, sporting director Deco is preparing for an overhaul in the summer, with the hope being to generate €200 million from player sales.

A number of players currently away on loan, such as Eric Garcia, Sergino Dest, and even Ansu Fati, could be offloaded permanently to bring in revenue.

Meanwhile, at least one important player from the current squad could also be offloaded if Deco is seriously aiming to reach that figure through sales.

Who could be sold?

Previously there has been talk of offloading one of the central defenders from the current squad, more so with Pau Cubarsi now slowly starting to establish himself in the first-team setup.

Ronald Araujo has attracted interest from Bayern Munich and Manchester United, but he is seen as ‘untouchable’, along with Pedri and Gavi. So, one of Andreas Christensen and Jules Kounde may end of being sacrificed.

There have been murmurs about the future of Robert Lewandowski as well, although Barcelona do not intend to force him out of the club and any decision will be fully up to the player.
