Barcelona director Deco to be more involved in first-team duties, will work more closely with Xavi – report

Things have not been going very well for FC Barcelona of late. Performances have not been up to the mark, tactics have been regularly questioned, and the recent 4-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup final has ramped up the pressure on manager Xavi.

Considering that the team won the La Liga and the Super Cup trophies last season, the drop in level is a major concern for the higher-ups at Can Barça.

Despite the situation, Barcelona continue to have faith in Xavi, with the club administration, led by president Joan Laporta himself, retaining full trust in him.

However, there may be some changes incoming in the way things operate behind the scenes, as the La Liga champions seek to improve the situation.

Deco to be more involved

Indeed, as per Laia Tudel on Catalunya Radio, Barcelona sporting director Deco will now have greater involvement with the first-team duties moving forward.

It is claimed that the Portuguese will collaborate more with first-team manager Xavi as Barça look for ways to turn things around.

Deco took over the reins as sporting director at Barcelona during the summer, replacing Mateu Alemany as the transfer chief at the club.

But it seems that his role at the club will not only be limited to transfers and contracts but also include some duties related to the first-team setup, although it is unclear as to what it would be.

Deco and Xavi were teammates in the past at Barcelona and even worked together in the summer on signings. And it appears that the pair will continue to work more closely going forward to shape the new era at the Catalan club.
