Some Barcelona fans booed Mason Greenwood and made their feelings crystal clear over a potential summer transfer for the Manchester United loanee during their rout over Getafe.

Greenwood, 22, has been heavily linked with a move to the Catalan side at the end of the season after impressing while on loan at Getafe. The England international had scored seven goals and provided five assists in 24 appearances this term prior to Saturday’s trip to Barcelona.

Atletico Madrid have also been named as a potential destination. Meanwhile, Sir Jim Ratcliffe admitted earlier this week that Greenwood may still have a future at United. This is despite being told that he will not play for the club again after United completed an internal six-month investigation against him.

Barcelona remain in the running for Greenwood’s signature, but the club’s fanbase are seemingly against the move after booing the winger during the 4-0 rout over Getafe on Saturday. Greenwood appeared to get plenty of stick from the Barca supporters as he tried to impress his potential new employers.

After struggling to make an impact on the game, Greenwood was substituted in the 67th minute with Getafe 3-0 down at the time. Raphinha, Joao Felix and Frenkie de Jong put Barcelona in a commanding position before Fermin Lopez scored their fourth to wrap up a comfortable victory.

Speaking on a fourth win in five La Liga matches for his side, Barcelona boss Xavi said: “Happy for many things. It’s a very complete game in attack and defence. We matched their intensity and we knew how to go into space many times. We knew how to get out of Getafe’s high pressure. It was a convincing game for the team.”

As for Greenwood, he is not back in action now until March 2 when Getafe host Las Palmas but rumours surrounding his future are no doubt going to continue. Getafe president Angel Torres, meanwhile, is confident they can keep him on a permanent deal once his loan deal expires in the summer.
