Barcelona send €1 billion contract extension proposal to breakout defender

Barcelona’s season was heading towards the gutter for the most part, with the team losing to Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup final, knocked out of the Copa del Rey by Athletic Club, and trailing Madrid by a lot in the league.

However, amidst this rather disappointing season, Barça have found fair few reasons of joy, especially courtesy of La Masia.

The academy has come through once again, with Lamine Yamal, Hector Fort, Marc Guiu, and Pau Cubarsi all making their debut this season.

All four players have been performing well beyond their years, with Yamal and Cubarsi already having nailed a starting spot in the team.

The latter, especially, has shown maturity most seasoned professionals can only dream of, playing a very difficult role as Barcelona’s centre-back. And it seems the club is ready to reward him.

New contract on table for Cubarsi

According to a recent report by Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona have already sent a new contact offer to Pau Cubarsi ahead of the summer transfer window.

They are very happy with his performances, and want him to be one of the backbones of their project heading into the future.

This extension will come with a salary increase for Cubarsi, and the Barcelona trademark €1 billion release clause, which is also included in the contracts of other prized assets like Gavi, Ronald Araujo, Pedri, and Lamine Yamal.

Barcelona are hoping to finalise the contract before the season ends so the player can be promoted and registered to the first-team in the summer before the 2025/26 season kicks off.

Barcelona set to promote three more youngsters

Having already promoted Fermin Lopez to the first-team mid-way through the season, Barcelona will also officially register Yamal, Guiu, and Fort alongside Cubarsi with the senior side, if reports are to be believed.

Yamal, in fact, could be in for huge responsibility as Barcelona are already thinking about handing him the #10 jersey as a bombshell marketing move.

Guiu and Fort, meanwhile, will serve as backups for the striker and full-backs, respectively. The former will also compete with Vitor Roque for a spot, as he has done this season already.
