Barcelona begin negotiations to renew 18-year-old midfield prodigy

In Pau Cubarsi, Lamine Yamal, and Fermin Lopez, Barcelona have unearthed three new gems from La Masia in the current season and more are knocking on the first-team doors.

One such player who is regarded highly and is seen as a future senior team player is 18-year-old defensive midfielder Pau Prim.

Barcelona in talks to renew Pau Prim

Currently a part of the Juvenil A setup, Prim is a player who is very much loved by all his teammates, coaches, and assistants at Barça’s grassroots level, reports SPORT.

The report adds that Barcelona want to renew Pau Prim’s contract and the player also wisehes to continue at the club. As such, negotiations over a new deal have begun and both parties hope to reach a satisfactory agreement.

Prim’s current contract expires in 2025. The 18-year-old has been at the club for years now and is regarded very highly thanks to his technical and creative skills as well as his 100% conformity with the Barça DNA.

After a stellar season with Juvenil B in 2022/23, Prim was promoted to Juvenil A this term where he impressed. In fact, the 18-year-old has also played nine times for Barça Atletic and has trained with the senior team under Xavi’s eyes.

In addition to playing in the Blaugrana youth academy since he was a child, Pau Prim is a Culé at heart who is a member of the club of his life. That is why he wants to link his professional life to Barcelona.

Pau Prim rejects Jorge Mendes

The report also states that Pau Prim has shot down an approach from superagent Jorge Mendes to take over as his representative.

Mendes’ agency, Gestifute, represents a number of young prospects at Barcelona including Alejandro Balde, Lamine Yamal, and Guille Fernandez. And the Portuguese agent was very interested in Pau Prim as well.

However, the teenager and his family decided to continue with Interfootball, the agency that has represented him since he was a youngster.

Pau thanked Mendes, and the other agents that have approached him for their interest, and respectfully turned them down.
