Barcelona forward in line for a call-up to the Brazil squad for England, Spain friendlies

Brazil are set to embark on a new journey under new manager Dorival Junior, who was finally appointed after the CBF spent months waiting for Carlo Ancelotti.

The Selecao will play their first matches under the new head coach next month as they take on England and Spain in friendly encounters.

And, as per Joaquim Piera of SPORT, Barcelona forward Raphinha stands a chance to earn a call-up to the Brazil squad for the friendly matches.

Having returned from an injury layoff, the 27-year-old winger played one of his finest matches in Barça colours this past weekend against Getafe.

And, after having been in the Selecao squad during the last international break in November, under then-manager Fernando Diniz, there is expectation that Raphinha will find a place in Dorival Junior’s first squad list as Brazil boss.

The attacker’s aim is to nail down a spot in the team so that he can be a part of the squad for the Copa America which takes place in the USA in the summer.

While Raphinha could enter the squad list, his Barcelona teammate and young striker Vitor Roque might not enjoy the same treatment.

The 19-year-old arrived at Barça only a couple of months ago and is being eased into action by the club’s management.

Even though he has already scored two goals, Roque has played intermittently, and given that there is a lot of competition for the No. 9 position in the Brazil squad, he might have to sit out of the upcoming games.

Although, with Dorival Junior expected to name 26 members in the squad instead of the usual 23, there may be an outside chance that Roque makes the cut. However, the youngster will likely have to compete with future Real Madrid player Endrick for the spot.
