Barcelona president met with Xavi, Deco to discuss transfer plans, consensus on two players – report

Barcelona are determined to make at least one more signing in the January transfer window after adding Vitor Roque to the squad.

The Blaugrana president, Joan Laporta, is doing everything possible to ensure that there is room for manoeuvre in the winter, with a new midfielder understood to be the utmost priority for the reigning La Liga champions.

Laporta meets with Xavi, Deco in Saudi Arabia

Now, as per SPORT, Barcelona president Laporta, sporting director Deco, and coach Xavi Hernandez have met in Saudi Arabia to reach a consensus over the transfer plans for January after several days without a face-to-face meeting.

Pedri has had a difficult season with injuries and even though Sergi Roberto has gained prominence, the coaching staff understand that a complement would be very useful.

The Blaugrana have promised the manager that they are doing everything possible to generate resources and shore up the squad for the decisive part of the season.

Barça understand the coach’s request and are working hard behind the scenes to make it happen. But, in the end, everything depends on the club being able to sell the stake in Barça Studios after German fund Libero defaulted on their €40 million payment.

Xavi has publicly admitted that ideally, he would like to sign a replacement for Gavi in midfield. The Barcelona manager is clear that he is short of personnel and both he and Deco are betting on the arrival of a midfielder who can play both as a pivot and as an interior.

The profile of the player is clear – he has international experience, physicality and a good eye for the ball.

The report then goes on to add that Deco and Xavi have already discussed market options and there seems to be consensus on two players in particular.

While no names are mentioned, it is claimed that Barcelona are thinking about advancing a signing planned for the summer to January if there is room to sign him. The other option would be to sign an emergency solution on a six-month loan.
